Makerspace Boot Camp - Day 1

Tuesday

Through two hands-on playgrounds (Circuitry & Engineering/Strategy), participants will learn about 12 different Makerspace products that are a perfect fit for Makerspaces and were not showcased last year. Participants will gain insight and understanding through two brand new informational sessions: a) So you want to start a Makerspace? Sheri & Shannon’s Top 20 Tips, Tricks & Picks and b) Combining Literature & Maker Activities.

ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL KNOW AND BE ABLE TO:

  • Develop maker style learning experiences appropriate for students in grades PK-12
  • Apply appropriate tips, tricks & top picks for designing Makerspaces to meet the needs in their library or classroom
  • Demonstrate how literature and making can be combined to ignite a love of reading and making with students
  • Make purchasing decisions regarding appropriate making and makerspace supplies and products

Makerspace Boot Camp - Day 2

Wednesday

Through two hands-on playgrounds (Fabrication with Tech & Coding), participants will learn about 12 different Makerspace products that are a perfect fit for Makerspaces and were not showcased last year. Participants will gain insight and understanding through two brand new informational sessions: a) What in the world is computational thinking? And b) Makerspaces - What the research tells us.

ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL KNOW AND BE ABLE TO: (e.g., read, develop, demonstrate, practice, etc.)

  • Develop maker style learning experiences appropriate for students in grades PK-12.
  • Explain Computational Thinking and how it applies to problem solving
  • Explain current research on the effects of makerspaces and student outcomes
  • Make purchasing decisions regarding appropriate making and makerspace supplies and products

Makerspace Boot Camp - Day 3

Thursday

Through two hands-on playgrounds (Robotics & S.A.M. Science, Art, Math), participants will learn about 12 different Makerspace products that are a perfect fit for Makerspaces and were not showcased last year. Participants will gain insight and understanding through two brand new informational sessions: a) Makerspaces as a conduit for Talent Development and b) Getting what you need: funding, loaners, online giveaways & free downloads.

ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL KNOW AND BE ABLE TO:

  • Develop maker style learning experiences appropriate for students in grades PK-12.
  • Explain how Makerspaces can be a conduit for Talent Development
  • Develop a plan to getting what you need for your own Makerspace.
  • Make purchasing decisions regarding appropriate making and makerspace supplies and products

Products to be explored (Coming Soon!)

Within each Playground Session, there will be (6) 25 minute Stations. Rotating basis each 25 minutes. Each attendee will receive a packet complete with product pages that will give them all the information about each product (What, Where to get, How much, Age Level, Description and Ease of Use).
