Bea Griggs Memorial Incentive Grant

To Encourage Young People to Use Libraries

SLMSSENY is looking to fund innovative and exemplary programs which promote excellence in library service to children and young adults. Total award of up to $500.



The purpose of this grant is to encourage young people to use libraries through innovative programming. A SLMSSENY member who has a great idea for a program but doesn’t have the budget to implement it should apply for this grant. 



1. Applicant must have been a member of SLMSSENY for at least 2 years, with membership in good standing

2. Applicant must be a certified school library media specialist currently employed in the SLMSSENY seven county region.

3. Active Executive Board Members, County Representatives, Committee Chair Liaisons, and previous winners are not eligible.

Review and Selection Process

Each application will be evaluated by a blind selection process done through a set committee of Executive Board Members.

Consider carefully what your students' needs are and what would make a dynamic program to support those needs.

Terms of Acceptance

Winner is responsible for submitting receipts for program related costs (up to the $500 award amount) by December 31, 2020. Winner is responsible for all sales tax on materials and supplies. If the grant is for materials, you are encouraged to submit an Amazon Wish List and they will be purchased on your behalf by SLMSSENY. If you will use different vendors, you will be reimbursed when detailed receipts are submitted. Winner must share what the grant is used for, how students were made aware of the program, and how the project/items affected students. This should be in the format of a document, slideshow, video or images that will be posted on the SLMSSENY website. You will be asked to submit this documentation within 6 months of the reimbursement/receipt of materials.

Winner will make every effort to attend the Spring Symposium event to accept the award (see below) 


Recognition of Recipient

The recipient will be contacted by the awards chair and formally recognized at our annual Spring Symposium. The 

Award winner will attend the Spring Symposium compliments of the SLMSSENY Board. A letter will also be sent to the winner's principal and superintendent.
