This year's School Library Media Specialists of Southeastern NY Spring Symposium features award winning author and illustrator Bryan Collier, along with a series of engaging workshops, and the presenting of SLMSSENY Scholarships and Grants.

Workshops will include:

Storytelling: Under the Microscope

Workshop Presenter: Melissa Heckler, Storyteller

Share the magic and enjoyment of storytelling with Melissa. Discover how storytelling can engage students of all ages. Along the way, Melissa will share some of her tips and tricks to help you start storytelling in your own library!

Resources and support for our ENL patrons and the Hispanic/Spanish speaking community

Workshop Presenter: Mariel Fiori, La Voz - Bard College

Learn about the unique local publication and how librarians and teachers can best work with our growing ENL populations.

Breakout EDU to inspire a love of reading

Workshop Presenter: Sudha Narsipur, LMS Ossining High School

In this workshop, participants will explore Breakout EDU to encourage reluctant readers to read and explore who they are as individuals

Best Practices for Collection Development and Programming

Workshop Presenter: Roundtable discussions

Share your must haves and the perfect book for that one patron that needs it, and what has worked best for you as you've worked to build a thriving community space in your library.

Join us for a day of learning, networking, sharing of ideas, and end the day with a collage workshop with Bryan!

Plus, Bryan Collier will be teaching us the art of collage!

Please also feel free to bring new or gently used books to be placed in laundromats throughout our counties as part of a project spearheaded by Thomas Morton, a junior at Yorktown High School.
