Sheri and Shannon - Not your Average Shushers!

Sheri McNair and Shannon Mersand have been presenting together on how to transform learning spaces since 2014. They have presented at Tech & Learning Live NY (2014, 2015), NYSCATE Hudson Valley Regional Conference (2015, 2016), Dutchess County BOCES (2015), and NYLA SSL Spring Conference (2015, 2016).

Sheri McNair is the head of library services for her district, overseeing the library curriculum instruction grades K-12. In addition to teaching information literacy and technology integration at the high school, she also serves on the district’s technology team and the inquiry facilitation team. She has taught many technology integration/social media professional development classes to teachers and fellow librarians, and is in the process of transforming the existing traditional high school library space into a 21st Century Learning Commons. McNair’s library has been featured in Tech & Learning Magazine (New & Improved Libraries, Not your Grandfather's Library, ) McNair is a member of NYSCATE, NYLA/SSL, SLMSSENY, ISTE, and the Orange-Ulster Regional Library Council. She is currently the treasurer of SLMSSENY. She has presented at various venues including the NYSCATE Hudson Valley Regional Conference, Mount Saint Mary College Conference on Literacy, NYS TESOL Conference, NYSEC Annual Conference and the NYLA SSL Spring Conferences. Shannon Mersand has been presenting at conferences locally, regionally and statewide since 2004. She is a technology leader and innovator who is dedicated to increasing student achievement through the use of technology and instructional design. She was named the Lee Bryant Outstanding Educator of the year in 2011 by NYSCATE. She is a School Media Specialist, an Adjunct Instructor for University of Wisconsin Stout and University at Albany (teaching courses on integrating MakerSpaces in schools and libraries), a course instructor for Creative Teacher, an Advisor for Tech & Learning Magazine (articles can be found here) and an authorized Google for Education Certified Trainer. Mersand’s MakerSpace has been featured in Tech & Learning Magazine (Making the Grade). Mersand is a member of NYSCATE, NYLA/SSL, SLMSSENY, and ISTE. She is the Technology Chairperson for SLMSSENY. She has presented at various venues including the NYSCATE Hudson Valley Regional Conference, NYSCATE Annual Conference and the NYLA SSL Spring Conferences. Exploring Making and Makerspaces at this 3 day immersive conference. Participants will learn about 25 maker style activities in 5 hands-on playgrounds, as well as learn the educational theory behind making and Makerspaces, funding opportunities, participate in a grant writing session, network with colleagues and so much more!
